North American P-51C Mustang

@Chino Airport, Chino, CA

May 2013

This early Mustang took part in the WWII flying display at the annual Planes of Fame airshow.  The first Merlin-powered Mustangs were designated P-51B/C, the only difference being the B’s were built in Long Beach, California, and the C’s in Dallas, Texas. 1. Beautiful profile; and an instructive shot of applied aerodynamics! Not many people realise the B Mustang was slightly faster than the “bubble-top” D, thanks to the smoother lines aft of the cockpit.
