Yakovlev Yak-11

The Yak-11 was a trainer aircraft used by the Soviet Air Force and other Soviet-influenced air forces from 1947 until 1962. This aircraft was raced at Reno in 1989 and 1991 and sports a race design propeller, among other modifications. This one, named “Black Moose” sits on static display at the annual Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show.   Nikon D300 w/18-200mm, processing with Photomatix Pro and Aperture.

  1. Isn’t the Yak an amazing aircraft to see ‘in the flesh’, as it were? The word “robust” just doesn’t do it justice. Up close it’s a real piece of chunky, tractor-tough Soviet engineering – well worth seeking out. Thanks for sharing.
